MOTHER 1+2 Starman SMAAAASH!! Special Edition T-Shirt

The MOTHER 1+2 Starman SMAAAASH!! Special Edition T-Shirt was released in Japan in 2003 by The King of Games for 4,800 yen. It was a collaborative effort between Shigesato Itoi (the creator of the MOTHER series) and The King of Games, a Japanese t-shirt company that is licensed to make official Nintendo apparel.

The Starman SMAAAASH!! Special Edition shirt features special color variation of the regular Starman SMAAAASH!! shirt that was created to celebrate the release of MOTHER 1+2, a role-playing game for the Game Boy Advance. A small amount these shirts were available to buy at the MOTHER 1+2 Tsutaya Release Party. They’re almost impossible to find second-hand today.

Item details

The front of the shirt features a sprite of a Starman, one of the recurring enemies from MOTHER and MOTHER 2. It’s meant to look like you’re having a battle against the Starman, since “Auto” is written in the corner and “SMAAAAASH!!” text is right above it. The back of the shirt shows the earth sprite that was used in the MOTHER title screen.

The images and text of the special edition shirt are displayed in a green ink and accented with a gold ink.
