EarthBound Photo Slides

The EarthBound photo slides are magazine test slides were sent out by Golin Harris (a public relations company) to video game magazines for use in articles and ads. Each slide features a promotional image for EarthBound, a role-playing game released for the Super Nintendo on June 5, 1995.

Because these were meant to be returned to the PR company after gaming journalists have written their articles, these slides are very hard to find second-hand today. They’re some of the rarest bunch of EarthBound merchandise that exists.

The sides are surrounded by a thick white paper boarder to prevent fingerprints from getting on them. On the front of each slide is written, “Please credit to: Nintendo of America” and “Super NES, EarthBound.” On the back of each slide is written, “Please Return to: Golin/Harris (213) 623-4200.” One slide even refers to the game as “Home Bound.”

Four different slide images are known to exist, though more could have possibly been made. The confirmed images are:

• Prototype EarthBound box art (black box)
• Official EarthBound box art
• Ness in front of his house
• Ness standing next to police officers in Onett
